Surrey Canicross Club is a non-profit, unincorporated association which was founded to promote canicross positively as a sport and inclusive recreational activity. We are striving to provide a professional, welcoming and all-inclusive environment in which everyone can enjoy the sport of canicross safely, and feel supported wherever they are on their journey.

Throughout the season, we offer once monthly social club runs (on routes that have been scouted and risk assessed by our run leaders), where we all run from the same place, in different pace groups, and then have social time afterwards with hot drinks and home made cakes provided (we do breakfast a few times a season as well!). This is free for all members. Our members also organise their own social runs, and do ad hoc organised club runs as well.

We may offer some coached runs for beginners if there is the demand. These are charged at £10 per person per session, and will focus on practicing specific canicross skills.

All membership benefits are detailed below.

We have the following membership levels available for the 2025/26 season:

Adult membership: £45 (one adult over 18)

Joint Membership £60 (two adults, running with a dog each)

Joint Membership £50 (two adults, running one dog between them)

Junior Membership £20 (one junior aged 16-18)

Our Membership fees allow us to schedule activities for our Members, and go towards paying our Club Run Leaders expenses for planning and leading official club sessions as well as for our specialist group canicross insurance, Club canicross kit and equipment.

We don’t want anyone to be excluded from canicross on the basis of cost. If cost of membership or classes is a concern for you, please get in touch in confidence with any Club Leader, and we will do all we can to help.

Membership FAQs

As well as helping us to build a positive, inclusive and safe canicross community environment for both humans and their dogs in Surrey, Club Membership gives you access to our runs, discounts on some of our events, £5M third party liability insurance covering you for canicross training and racing, and if you fancy it, the opportunity to race under the Club banner.

We've also negotiated a bunch of discounts with a variety of suppliers which in themselves can easily save you back the cost of your membership!

Our Club and Leaders are insured, DBS checked, human & canine first aid trained and between them hold professional running, fitness and dog behaviour qualifications. Our runs are planned, scouted and risk-assessed to help ensure our group's safety.

We require that all people running with us should be Club members in order to be covered by our canicross specific insurance, when out canicrossing, either on your own or with a group, as well as when competing in events (many events have this as an entry requirement). Thankfully, adverse incidents are few and far between, but do happen, and we want everyone who runs with us to be fully protected.

You can be a member and opt out of our insurance policy, however we do require that you have a current insurance policy that covers you for third party liability when partaking in canicross and associated activities. You will be asked to provide the Club with your certificate of insurance and proof of cover. There is no discount to the Membership Fee for opting out of the insurance policy.

Third party liability insurance covers you (and your dog) for legal action arising for damage or injury that you have caused to another person, dog, property or similar. For example, if a fellow trail-user breaks an arm by tripping over your bungee line and decides to sue for damages, or your dog bites another at a canicross event and the other owner claims for the vet fees, third party insurance would cover their claim against you. This cover includes Member-to-Member, so if your dog bit another member's dog and they wanted to make a claim against you, you would also be covered.

You will need to check the fine print of your policy to make sure! If in doubt, give your insurance a call to check. Canicross is often a bit of a grey area and many standard policies will not cover you - or will just cover you, but not third parties, or will cover you and third parties, but NOT for public races or competitions. It can be seen a little like car insurance, where your usual policy will cover you for regular driving, but you need to take additional cover to drive on a racetrack, or abroad.

Individuals or organised groups of Members are covered for providing, managing, planning or participating in Club Activities, which includes training for canicross, hikes, bikejor/scootjor, social events, trials, AGMs and other Club-related events, competitions and races.

Our specialist policy is arranged through Chris Knott Insurance for both Club events and canicross activities. Your personal information is not shared with the insurers; in the event of a claim, please contact the Club Secretary who will liaise with the insurers to confirm your membership and allow the insurer to speak directly with you. There is a £250 excess on any claim.

As well as insurance, our Membership and Session Fees allow us to schedule activities for and on behalf of our Members, and go towards paying our Club Run Leaders fairly for their time in planning and leading Official Club sessions (Club Runs, Hikes and other club activities), as well as for our specialist group canicross insurance, Club kit and equipment.
