If you need any further info prior to this\, please email us on surreycanicross@gmail.com\n\nTheory Session (NO dogs)\nDate and Time: Saturday 27th September\, 3pm – 5pm\nLocation: Box Hill Village Hall\, KT20 7JS\n\nPractical session (WITH dogs)\nDate and Time: Sunday 28th 7:00-8:00am (approx)\nLocation: Denbies Wine Estate\, Dorking.\n\n\nCost £50pp (£25 for an additional partner/family member if you only have one dog between you. We have quite a few couples who share one dog\, which they take turns to run with). This includes both sessions\, kit hire for you and your dog\, tuition and an e-booklet that will be emailed out afterwards containing all we cover in the sessions and more.\n\nThe workshop will consist of a theory session (without the dogs) followed by a practical session (with the dogs) the following morning.\nOur beginners workshop will give you the confidence to explore the trails with your canine partner.\nThis workshop (or suitable previous canicross experience – please get in touch to discuss if you already run with your dog) is a prerequisite for joining our other sessions as it ensures you have a minimum level of competence and understanding when out on the trails and running with the group.

Instructions are on the pay machines in the car park. Here is the link to do this: https://surreycanicross.co.uk/about/#join-renew (scroll down and select Beginner Taster Registration) \nDuring this session you will get the opportunity to try on belts\, and handle all the kit most commonly used to see what might work best for you and your pup. \nWe will provide a brief introduction to Canicross\, Directional Cues\, Building confidence on the trail\, Trail Running Tips and Tricks and more. This will be followed by a practical session\, out exploring some of the beautiful trails that Surrey has to offer\, under the guidance of our Canicross coach. We accommodate all speeds and levels of fitness\, so please don’t worry about fitting in! \nYou will need to ensure that you have time to let your dog go to the toilet and stretch their legs before your Leader briefing at 7.00am (so aim to arrive at 6:45am!). \nWhat do you need to know for the practical: \nThe session will go ahead unless prevented by extreme weather conditions\, we will let you know as soon as possible but in some cases this might not be until the morning of the practical. \nPlease wear appropriate clothing and shoes. This includes: \n\nTrail running shoes (these are essential – road running trainers do not have suitable grip for slippery trails!)\nClothing suitable for running in\, taking the weather into account – hats\, gloves\, layers etc if needed\n\nYou should also remember to bring: \n\nWater for both you and your dog in the car for afterwards.\nAny medication such as inhalers\, epipens etc (and make sure to disclose these on your Registration Forms)\nHappy\, healthy and willing canine companion.\n\nWe actively encourage partners/family to our sessions as dogs often have more than one person in their family and it can be very useful to have more than one person know the cues for training consistency (or should you decide that they might enjoy canicross as well!). We have plenty of partners and families who run together with us. SUMMARY:Beginner's Workshop Weekend
DESCRIPTION:NEW for the 2023/24 Season! \nThis year we have decided to switch up our methods of introducing our running partners to the world of Cani-Sports\, including Canicross and Cani-hike. Our new beginners workshop will give you the confidence to explore the trails with your canine partner from the warmth of a hall with hot drinks to hand! \nThis workshop is a prerequisite for joining our other sessions as it ensures you have a minimum level of competence and understanding when out on the tails and running with the group.* \nIt comprises two morning sessions and you will receive a course handout for easy reference afterwards. \n  \nSaturday Morning (30th September\, 9.15am-11.45am)\, The Church of the Good Shepherd\, The Avenue\, Tadworth\, Surrey\, KT20 5AS \n A ”dogless” theory morning\, so that you can learn the basics without the stress of managing your dog at the same time. \nIt will include: Introduction to Canicross\, Canicross Specific Sports Equipment\, How to develop Directional Cues\, Building confidence on the trail\, Trail Running Tips and Tricks\, Hydration and Heat injury\, Good Etiquette\, Terrain safety and more. \nOur aim for our Theory Taster is to arm you with the information you need and the confidence to use it on the trails with your dog. During our session you will get the opportunity to try on belts\, and handle all the kit most commonly used to see what might work best for you and your pup. \nThere will be a refreshment break with drinks and cake. \nSunday Morning (1st October\, 7.00am-9.00am)\, Denbies Wine Estate\, Bradley Ln\, Dorking RH5 6AA \nA practical session\, out exploring some of the beautiful trails that Surrey has to offer\, and putting into practice what you learned on day 1\, so hopefully you’ll feel a little more relaxed and your dog will too! Participants will be divided into small groups according to running ability with each hosted by one of our experienced Leaders\, who will support you into your first steps into the world of Canicross. We accommodate all speeds and levels of fitness\, so please don’t worry about fitting in! \nYou will need to ensure that you have time to warm up\, kit up and prepare for your Leader Briefing before we hit the trails. \nWhat do you need to know for the practical: \n During our theory session we will give you a step by step guide on how to get ready for the practical session.
